Volunteering Opportunities in China, Hong Kong and Mongolia
Who are we? Just Volunteers (JV) is run by Josephine Chesterton who has worked for nearly 30 years in China and Hong Kong both in banking and academia. We help a small group of charities there and in Malaysia and Mongolia to find overseas volunteers to work with them for short periods during gap years, career breaks or university vacations. This is entirely a non profit organization.
What are the projects? The project organizations are mainly orphanages or related schools, but there are also vocational projects for the disadvantaged and disabled. We only recommend projects which we know and which seem suitable for the individuals concerned.
How will it work? Once the potential volunteers decide they wish to take part and have been accepted by a project, an agreement is made and volunteers deal directly with that project. Just Volunteers! does not work for the projects.
Volunteers are expected to pay their own expenses (although, where possible, the projects offer free accommodation).
Wherever relevant, and after passing their first interview, volunteers will be able to contact previous volunteers who have worked at the same project in the past.
This is not a ‘Gap Year Company’ with all the hand holding (and cost!) that travel with such an organization implies.
This is an opportunity for adventurous young people to do something that ‘makes a difference’ in a developing country working with local organizations.
There are also opportunities for adventurous people of any age who would like to spend a few weeks or months doing something different and worthwhile using their particular skills!
